Tottenham

The London side Tottenham Hotspur are preparing themselves for the upcoming season and alongside the Premier League, Lilly-Whites will be battling in the Champions League and that is what makes this an uphill task for the manager and the players. The players are out on a pre-season tour, while many from the first team squad have been left out due to their participation in the European Championship.

The league will kick off for the Lilly-Whites on 13th of August 2016 and the side will be challenging Ronald Koeman’s men Everton at the Goodison Park. It is fair to say that this time around, the squad will have to fire all the cylinders to replicate the same form. This is no secret that the arrival of top class managers and players have set the bar up on top, hence, we surely can expect a major shock in the next campaign as well.

With Champions League to play for, the side will have to suffer more fatigue and to avoid that, the manager will have to add more faces to the squad. The side will have to be sharper, more balanced and more concentrated to battle the teams like Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

They suffered a heavy defeat last season in the Europa League against the German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, or we can say that the Lilly-Whites were humbled in both the legs last season, and this time the competition is harder, hence, the manager will have to make a master plan.

This is no secret that Dortmund have become one of the best sides in Europe in the recent past, hence, this can be a lesson for the Lilly-Whites, so, here we give you 3 things Totthenham should learn from Borussia Dortmund:

  1. Mental stability in big games-

Many would argue, but this is no secret that Tottenham could face a major setback in the Champions League because what they lack is the top class European experience. The squad is dynamic, yet so young to challenge the experienced ones. Dortmund, on the other hand, isn’t the oldest as well. They have their goalkeeper who is 35, and the rest of the squad is still very young.

Tottenham can enjoy themselves in the Premier League, but it is the bigger stage that matters. We saw how Tottenham stars faired in the European Championship and that was just a glimpse of that. What they need is a mental stability and the confidence to challenge the top clubs. The squad is a diamond no doubt, but that still needs a cutting edge.

  1. Transfer activities-

It is safe to say that it is Borussia Dortmund, who have done the most successful business this summer. With the star players like Mats Hummel, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan leaving the club, they wasted no time to buy the alternatives. So far, Thomas Tuchel has brought eight players into the squad, namely:

André Schürrle VfL Wolfsburg 30,00 Mill. €
Mario Götze Bayern Munich 26,00 Mill. €
Ousmane Dembélé Rennes 15,00 Mill. €
Sebastian Rode Bayern Munich 12,00 Mill. €
Raphaël Guerreiro FC Lorient 12,00 Mill. €
Marc Bartra FC Barcelona 8,00 Mill. €
Emre Mor Nordsjaelland 7,00 Mill. €
Mikel Merino CA Osasuna 3,75 Mill. €

Now, looking at Tottenham’s transfer activities, Pochettino has completed just 2 signings till date. No wonder that those players are the necessity, but then again, in the Champions League, you cannot rely on Dele Alli and Danny Rose for every single game.

  1. Do not sell your best players-

Harry Kane

It is safe to say that the Lilly-Whites were one of the best teams in the Premier League last season, but the manager and the players themselves cannot assure the same in the up coming season.

Dortmund have already been termed as a selling club. After spending two or three wonderful seasons with the club, the players eventually are sold to the bigger names. Tottenham are a developing club and in this process, the team might have to face the same situation as Dortmund.

Players like Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Eriksen and so on can be easily targeted by the big clubs and the players themselves can be tempted if an offer from Barcelona or Real Madrid comes. In these situations, the club needs to work hard to find the best possible solution.
