Sunderland forward Jack Clarke reflects on his “difficult” spell at Tottenham Hotspur

Former Tottenham Hotspur starlet Jack Clarke has opened up about his “difficult” spell in North London. The 21-year-old left Spurs this summer and joined Sunderland in the Championship.

Tottenham signed Clarke in 2019 from Leeds United for £10 million. He subsequently spent time on loan with the Peacocks and Queens Park Rangers before returning to North London in the summer of 2020.

However, the 21-year-old never really got going in his Spurs career. Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Clarke reflects on the challenges he faced at Tottenham. However, the youngster does not have any regrets.

“It was a difficult one really. Looking back on it it never really materialised in the way I wanted it to or into anything, but I wouldn’t say I’d do anything differently.

“I still took the opportunity, I tried my best when I was there and obviously it wasn’t meant to be. I’m glad I made the switch when I did and I’m enjoying being here now.”

In his time in North London, Clarke mostly featured for the reserve side. The 21-year-old featured just four times for Spurs in his two seasons in all competitions.

Clarke seems to have found his form back at Sunderland now. For the Black Cats, the English youngster has been brilliant. In eight appearances in the Championship in the 2022/23 campaign, the 21-year-old has scored two goals and given three assists.

At Tottenham, fighting for a place in the forward line is a challenging task. The North London side have some of the best attackers in world football. Harry Kane has consistently delivered for us over the years.

Son Heung-min is another talisman Spurs have been able to count on. Last season, the South Korean finished the Premier League season as one of the Golden Boot winners.

Dejan Kulusevski has made an instant impact up front since arriving in January. And Antonio Conte has bolstered the attack further with the addition of Richarlison this summer.
