Chelsea admire Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Vincent Kompany
According to the Times, Chelsea admire Tottenham’s managerial target Vincent Kompany and are considering him as an option to replace Graham Potter going forward.
The managerial merry-go-round in London is in full swing, with both Tottenham and Chelsea on the hunt for a new leader. And, as it turns out, they may be fighting over the same man. In fact, they are fighting for quite a few of the same names.
Vincent Kompany, the former Manchester City captain turned manager, is said to be on Tottenham’s radar as they search for a replacement for Antonio Conte. However, they are not alone in their pursuit.
It’s not hard to see why Kompany is in demand. After a playing career that saw him win multiple Premier League titles and captained Belgium to third place at the 2018 World Cup, he has turned his attention to management with impressive results.
At Burnley, the 37-year-old has transformed a side that was known for its defensive solidity into a free-flowing attacking unit that is on the verge of winning the Championship title. His reputation in the world of football management is soaring.
Unsurprisingly, this has made him a hot commodity for clubs that need a new manager. Kompany has a dilemma to answer though. On the one hand, taking over at a Premier League club like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a huge opportunity for him.
He would have the chance to work with some of the best players in the world, in front of some of the biggest crowds in the world. It would be a challenge, but one that could potentially reap huge rewards.
On the other hand, both Tottenham and Chelsea are notoriously difficult clubs to manage. The owners demand success, and they demand it quickly. There is no time for a manager to settle in and build a team over a period of years. If Kompany were to start poorly, he could find himself out of a job very quickly.

It’s a huge gamble for Kompany to take to leave an exciting project at Turf Moor to start building something at either of the London club. If he chooses to jump ship, let’s hope he chooses Tottenham. Even if that isn’t the case, there are other options that we can consider.
